Superintendent Adele Tucknott of Sussex Police expressed her deepest sympathies, stating: “I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to the family of this young man, who lost his life in such tragic circumstances, and reassure the public that we have a suspect in custody.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation to establish the exact circumstances of what happened, and we’re urging anyone who witnessed it or captured anything on camera to please come forward.

The news comes as a man appeared in court on Saturday morning, and remanded into custody after being charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was killed after having his “throat slashed” in broad daylight.

Alfie Franco, 20, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of the teenager in Huddersfield, and an offence of possessing a knife in a public place.

Police are still investigating the stabbing that took place on Ramsden Street in Huddersfield at about 2.45pm on Thursday.

The victim, who police have now identified as Ahmad Mamdouh Al Ibrahim, received a single wound to the neck and died later in hospital from his injury.

Franco was charged overnight and detained custody ahead of his court appearance.
