Police manhunt under way after ‘serious incident’ in Plymouth

Police are searching for a suspect after a serious assault in Plymouth’s West Hoe left a victim hospitalised, with the public urged to avoid the area.

Police have confirmed that a male suspect remains at large following a serious assault in the West Hoe area of Plymouth.

Emergency services were called to West Hoe Road at 8.55pm on Monday, 22 January, after a person was found seriously injured in the street. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting them to Derriford Hospital.

A significant police presence remains in the area, with officers conducting extensive searches and enquiries to locate the suspect. While police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public, they have urged locals to avoid the West Hoe area while the investigation is ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “We have a large police presence in the area and enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect. We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public. We would ask members of the public to please stay away from the West Hoe area of the city while we continue our investigation.”

It is understood that the suspect and victim are known to each other.

West Hoe Road remains closed, and a police scene guard is in place as investigations continue.
