‘Mr Trump f*** off’ fumes Dane as he tells Donald ‘listen carefully’ in Greenland tirade

‘Mr Trump, f*** off!’ a Danish politician said in a furious rage about the new-appointed President Donald Trump’s comments about the US potentially annexing Greenland

Donald Trump has been told told to “f*** off” by a furious Danish MEP during an angry tirade.

Anders Vistisen, a member of the right-wing populist Danish People’s Party, said in a debate in Strasbourg that Greenland is “not for sale” following Trump’s comments on annexing the territory. Trump has not ruled out using the US military to achieve this.

“I have a few words for dear President Trump,” he said. “Listen very carefully: Greenland has been part of the Danish Kingdom for 800 years. It is an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale. Let me put it in words you might understand: Mr Trump, f*** off.”

The comments, said in a debate called to discuss the EU’s relations with the Trump administration, earned a Vistisen a reprimand. “It is not OK in this house of democracy,” European Parliament vice president Nicolae Ștefănuță said.

She added: “Regardless of what we think of Mr Trump, it is not possible to use such language.”

In a tweet earlier today, Vistisen doubled down. According to a translation, he said: “It has upset some people that I used the phrase ‘f*** off’ in my rejection of the idea that the United States should be able to gain control of Greenland through threats of military or economic pressure against Denmark. Now, I have never considered Trump to be a narrow-minded person, but of course you have to speak properly…”

He added: “Greenland is Danish, it is not for sale – and neither threats nor prayers can change that. Treat your allies well, and we’ll return the courtesy.”

Trump has irked US allies and partners with his recent remarks on other countries included US allies. Denmark is a NATO ally, while Trump has also made comments about making Canada the 51st American state.

The White House incumbent has said tariffs on Canada and Mexico were coming and apparently confused Spain for a member of the BRICS bloc of developing economies, causing some head-scratching and jitters over possible tariffs in Madrid.

Spain, a NATO member, is not in BRICS, which is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Trump said Spain was in BRICS when a journalist asked him about NATO countries like Spain which do not meet the alliance minimum of spending 2% of economic output on defence.

“Spain is very low,” Trump said referring to its defence spending, but quickly veered into speaking about BRICS.

“They’re a BRICS nation, Spain. Do you know what a BRICS nation is? You’ll figure it out,” he told the reporter from the presidential desk in the Oval Office.

Trump repeated his threat to put costly tariffs on BRICS, saying “we are going to put at least a 100% tariff on the business they do with the United States,” part of his economic plans that would overturn decades of free trade consensus.

Spanish education minister Pilar Alegria, who acts as a spokeswoman for the government, said she was not sure why Trump made the comment.

“I don’t know if the affirmation made by president Trump was the result of a mix-up or not, but I can confirm that Spain is not in BRICS,” Ms Alegria told reporters on Tuesday.
