With just over a week left of the transfer window, Manchester United are racing against time to finalise their business.

Despite splashing out significantly in the summer, the Red Devils find themselves languishing in the lower half of the Premier League table and with a new head coach at the helm. Ruben Amorim has yet to shape United’s squad with his own players, and time is ticking for him to bring some fresh faces in.

There could be both arrivals and departures at Old Trafford before the window slams shut. Marcus Rashford’s future seems increasingly likely to remain in the North West as each day passes, while United are reportedly working on securing a deal for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.Amorim branded his United squad possibly the worst in the history of the club – so there is certainly room for improvement. Here’s the latest transfer news and gossip from Old Trafford.

United are reportedly preparing their second bid for Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu, reports the Mirror.

The Red Devils have already had one offer rejected by the Serie A club. They’re expected to come back with a higher bid than their initial €27million, but still below Dorgu’s €40m price tag.The 20-year-old Danish full-back appears eager to make the switch to Old Trafford. He’s also attracted interest from Napoli recently, who would be willing to let Dorgu stay on loan with Lecce until the end of the season.

Meeting scheduled

There’s plenty of updates on United’s pursuit of Dorgu. After representatives met with Lecce president Sticchi Damiani, a second meeting is planned for the weekend.Damiani has reportedly stated that initial discussions went well and he was ‘proud’ to have attracted interest from a club of United’s stature. However, the Lecce boss hinted that he would prefer to retain Dorgu until the end of the season.According to Sport Witness via Calciomercato, another meeting is scheduled in three days. With Ruben Amorim eager for a deal this month, it seems Damiana may not be committed to keeping Dorgu for the rest of the season.

As each day passes, it becomes increasingly challenging for Marcus Rashford to secure a move away this month. Current reports suggest the 27-year-old has accepted that he will stay at Old Trafford for the remainder of the season after talks over a move to Borussia Dortmund hit a roadblock. The financial implications of such a deal have left the Bundesliga side ‘not hopeful’ of landing Rashford this month, according to Sky Sports Germany. Dortmund will wait to see if United are willing to cover most of Rashford’s wages as the transfer window draws to a close.AC Milan’s hopes of signing Rashford have been dashed after they loaned Kyle Walker from Manchester City. The Serie A heavyweights are banned from signing him as they can’t register another temporary move for a non-EU player from the Premier League.
